The cucumber is the fruit from a herbaceous plant with the same name. It’s from the cucurbitaceae family. There are around 850 plant species under this name, most of them herbaceous, climbers or creeping plants which produce big fruits  protected by a rough peel. Some fruits like watermelon or regular melons belong to it, together with some other common vegetables like the courgette or the pumpkin.
