Mahon cheese is also known as Mahon-Menorca cheese due to its Designation of Origin. It is made from cow’s milk. It is an uncooked pressed paste cheese, with parallelepiped shape and round edges. It has a Regulating Council of the Protected Designation of Origin, and it is exclusively produced in the isle of Menorca, in Spain, according to tradition and the rules contained in the Regulation of PDO.

In 1985, it was definetely awarded the Denomination of Origin Mahon cheese, and later, in 1998, the word Menorca was also added to the protected cheese, whose name was changed to Mahon- Menorca.
