Chives are perennial plants belonging to the herbaceous type and with a bulbous stalk.

They can grow up to 70 cm. Their leaves are hollow and thin, with a greenish colour, and they join together forming very dense shrubs. The bulbs in the stalk are white and we can find them buried in the soil. Their flowers are purple or mauve, a very ornamental colour that gives a great beauty to the gardens.

It can be consumed fresh, but it can also be stored dried or frozen. It is used in plenty of dishes, and the bulbs are preserved in vinegar.
